IFOP Arica participates in “La Ruta de la Palometa” Festival

On February 10th, the 3rd version of “La Ruta de La Palometa” Festival was held staritg to be consolidated in an appreciated panorama by Arica’s community and tourists who happen to visit the Arica and Parinacota’s region on these dates.

This activity, aims to disseminate Palometa’s fishing resource importance and to promote fish and shellfish consumption, this year had an exponential audience increase. After a couple of years of recess, due to pandemic’s health contingency, visitors were once again able to enjoy gastronomic demonstrations, cultural activities and various stands prepared by public and private institutions linked to fishing sector.

This successful initiative organized by Independent Artisanal Fishermen Workers of Arica’s Union , in this new version, added scientific observers and researchers participation from Fisheries Development Institute who, through a striking sample of hydrobiological species, were able to make known to attendees part of fish biodiversity present in the area, their life history and artisanal fishing activity information.

Hernán Padilla IFOP’s headquarters head, along with appreciating the initiative, thanked the organization for the invitation, and indicated that “this instance allowed us to communicate the attendees the important ecological, fishing and economic role that highly migratory resources have, such as the pomfret, which historically in Chile presents its largest landings in Arica’s Port ”.

It should be noted that Palometa’s fishery is part of IFOP’s numerous monitored resources which year after year generate key inputs for decision-making by the institutional framework within its comprehensive fishing consultancies framework.
