The Department of Oceanography and Environment, is an interdisciplinary work unit, dedicated to monitoring, modeling and analysis of ecosystem information to understand the influence of environmental variability of natural and anthropic origin as management measures in the sustainability of biodiversity. and industrial and artisanal fishing activity.

Mission
Determine and understand the effect of environmental fluctuations on the life history of national fishery resources and biodiversity from an ecosystem point of view, incorporating socioeconomic aspects of artisanal fishery management.

Vision
Transdisciplinary work unit, which within a socio-ecological approach is recognized at the national level in the monitoring, modeling and analysis of ecosystem information to understand the influence of environmental variability of natural and anthropic origin as the management measures in the sustainability of the biodiversity and industrial and artisanal fishing activity.

Strategic planning
Execute the research program aimed at monitoring and understanding the effect of fluctuations of natural and anthropic origin on the population dynamics of fishery resources and biodiversity, as well as determining interactions with artisanal fishing activity.

Team of highly specialized researchers and technicians in the area of ​​Oceanography, Marine Biology, Marine Chemistry, Marine Ecology, Socioeconomics and Fisheries Engineering, specialist divers and samplers.
