IFOP Researchers from Valparaíso met with the public area and Industrial fishing representatives of Puerto Aysén

In order to disseminate and discuss the results obtained in the research programme and monitoring fishing in of demersal fish in foreign waters.

Between the 24th to the 28th of April, a series of meetings and presentations directed towards the public sector and the industrial fishing sector of XI Region was developed in Puerto Aysén. In order to disseminate and discuss the results obtained in the research programme and monitoring of demersal fish fishing in foreign waters. It was organized by professionals of the Instituto de Fomento Pesquero (IFOP), Renato Cespedes and Luis Adasme alongside Julio Uribe project coordinator monitoring demersal and deepwater in XI Region.

On the other hand, the activity was oriented to strengthen the relationships between the different entities and IFOP researchers linked to the study of southern demersal fishery. Elements such as bycatch, conservation, fisheries and the sustainability of resources, good practices were topics widely addressed in a way of identifying common goals and opportunities for collaboration.

Representatives of the National Fishing and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca), the Zonal direction of Fishing and Aquaculture Undersecretariat (Subpesca) and FRIOSUR fleet division (fishing industry) in Puerto Chacabuco shared different activities with professionals.

Renato Céspedes Researcher of the Fishing Assessment Department explained: these direct difussion activities granting this research results to local and regional actors allows through this talks to know their concerns and clarify doubts, as also to identify research needs, where for example actors mentioned the need to improve knowledge of migration and growth marking programs on Southern haker. “. This in order to improve knowledge about its migration and growth.

Luis Adasme, Fishing Assessment Department declared: “This performed work allowed to share and discuss with the productive industrial fishing area actors proposals to mitigate incidental capture of marine birds receiving interesting comments and suggestions that will allow to improve such initiatives”.
