Instituto de Fomento Pesquero celebrated its anniversary 52 with different activities
June 16th, 2016The Instituto de Fomento Pesquero, IFOP, was created on 1964 by Corporación de Fomento de la Producción (CORFO) and Sociedad Nacional de Pesca, by means of an international technical assistance project in fishing issues between United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The strategic role of Instituto de Fomento Pesquero (IFOP) is based on the ability to generate, develop and transfer useful knowledge that will enable our country to position, in a competitive and sustainable way, in the field of aquaculture and fisheries, especially for its research of high public value.
Activities
Day of Research: May 26, in Palacio Cousiño, Blanco 997 Valparaíso, the day of the research was carried out. The objective of the activity was to enhance the institutional tasks.
Leonardo Núñez Montaner, Executive Director of IFOP, explained that the activity is “an occasion when IFOP shows its tasks to the scientific and governmental community. It is expected to be a landmark in the annual development of our institution, and also a meeting moment with our research colleagues of regions.”
The program includes a video of the beginnings, some words of the Undersecretary and a brief public account by the Executive Director and also a round of presentations in charge of IFOP researchers.

Institutional Lunch: The program of activities included a luncheon on Friday, May 27 at “Quebrada el Encanto” in Villa Alemana. At the beginning of the ceremony, workers who meet
45, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15 and 10 years of service were awarded.
Activities in regions (Punta Arenas)
Next June 9 in Punta Arenas, a seminar will be held at the Account office halls, between 09.00 and 13.00 hours, on scientific research and fishing world.
On June 10, a very entertaining workshop diffusion of projects carried out by IFOP will be held at Ice Rink of Southern Zone with a very playful aspect showing the life cycles of king crab or Snow Crab, live with aquariums and with a lot of information given through brochures and special awards to motivate viewers, especially children, so, Punta Arenas community is invited to participate.
