Knowing and caring for Chilean seafood

It is the action of returning to the sea species caught unintentionally in fishing operations.
Why it happens?
Sometimes nets catch, along with commercial interest species, others that cohabit with them, which are discarded since they have no economic value, or are species with a ban or fishing quotas, whose landing is sanctioned.
How to reduce it?
Through designs of fishing gear improvements and detection technologies that allow capturing only commercial species and / or modifying periods and fishing zones.
Chile is one of the pioneer countries in DISCARD investigation and in implementing a plan for its reduction. taxonomic: mollusks, crustaceans, echinoderms and urochordates. Most of them must be extracted on a Minimum Legal Size, the purpose of which is to protect the juveniles and ensure their future reproduction.
