The cruise will last 42 days, between July 24th and September 4th
On July 24, from the port of Valparaíso, IFOP scientific ship Abate Molina took off to evaluate the stock of common hake, using the hydroacoustic method, between the northern boundary of the IV Region and the X Region.
The chief of the cruise is Esteban Molina and the captain of the ship is Enrique Quiero to leave with a staff of 28 people among investigators and crew of the boat. The study area comprises from Chañaral to Chacao channel
The specific objectives of the cruise are:
To estimate the stock size of common hake and its spatial distribution in the area and study period. To characterize the demographic composition of the stock evaluated by biological indicators analyzed in a spatial context. To characterize the reproductive activity of the evaluated stock of common hake from the data obtained in the research hauls.
Characterize the companion fauna in the directed fishery for common hake in the area and period of study, with special emphasis on the cuttlefish (Dosidicus gigas).
Characterize the spatial and bathymetric distribution of ichthyoplankton, eggs and larvae of common hake and determine the bio-oceanographic conditions present in the area and study period.
Characterize and analyze the aggregations of common hake in the area and study period.
