On November 2015, after sixth consecutive years, ISO 9001 International Certification was renewed under supervision of Bureau Veritas Chile. This certification is for these processes: “Compilation, Reception, Entering, Validation, Storage and Protection of Fishing Biological Data of Fisheries, both artisanal and industrial, developed in the following ports and fisheries. Ports: Arica, Iquique, Coquimbo, San Antonio, Talcahuano and Calbuco. FISHERIES: pelagic, demersal and demersal shellfish.

IFOP units involved in this certification are the Executive Direction, Fishing Research Division, Infrastructure and Technical Division and the Departments of Data Management, Technology of Information, Economy and Statistics, Human Resources, Logistic and Infrastructure and Risk Prevention.

Oscar Guzmán, Researcher and ISO representative at IFOP, explained that “since 2006, the professionals and IFOP technicians, with advice of ABS Consulting and Bureau Veritas Chile, have worked hard in the certification of Data Management process under international standard ISO 9001/2008.

In this way, IFOP makes sure that the quality of the compiled data at ports and fisheries previously mentioned, duly fulfill with international standards of quality. It is important to mention that there are just two fishing research institutes worldwide which are certified under quality standard ISO 9001: the French Institute for Sea Exploitation IFREMER and Instituto de Fomento Pesquero (IFOP).

It is planned that the rest of the fisheries covered by IFOP studies progressively obtain certification by 2018” the professional finished.
