Scientific observer Yerko Yutronich of IFOP attends course in France

“There is a worldwide need of scientists from the natural sciences to develop interdisciplinary research and with multisectorial actors, where work with fishermen and coastal communities have a fundamental role.”

Between May 26 and 28, in the School Victor Segalen of University of Western Brittany, Brest, France, the course “Methods of Social Sciences for researchers of natural Sciences” was held.

“The aim of the course is to learn techniques that can be used in the work with fishermen, coastal communities and institutions in order to spread the Descarte Research Program in seine fisheries of Pelagic Small, conducted by IFOP. The course also allows feedback from the experiences of researchers in other countries and build support networks with researchers internationally,” said Yerko.

Topics covered in the course were “Social Toolbox for scientists of the natural sciences, theory and debate on “Fishermen Ecological Knowledge “(FEK, according its name in English) Dynamics of perceptions and behaviors.

In addition, a field trip was carried out to “Le Conquet” creek, cove with a strong local development, cooperative and touristic, where interviews were conducted to different stakeholders,” ended Yerko Yutronich .
