Christian Valero, is a researcher of section Age and growth of the Instituto de Fomento Pesquero
Between November 21st and 25th, the “Workshop on capture-recapture and recovery analysis 2016” was held in Esporles, Mallorca,
This course addressed the theoretical and practical aspects of the marking and recapture analysis, applied as a tool to estimate the survival rate, recruitment, among other population parameters. This is a very useful tool for studies of population ecology.
Christian is a researcher of section Age and growth of the Instituto de Fomento Pesquero, a unit whose studies focus on the determination of age and the growth of the Chilean mackerel, providing the necessary indicators for stock assessment and analysis of the status of the exploited populations.
The investigations in this section are based on age estimates using “Sclerocronology”, which is the technique that uses hard structures such as otoliths, spines, vertebrae, mollusc valves, etc., to identify growth rings whose periodicity of formation can be validated in accuracy and precision to estimate the age of the species, in years or days.
