Scientific Vessel Abate Molina enter dry dock in Asmar Talcahuano

On June 21, the vessel “Abate Molina” enter floating dock “Gutierrez” in ASMAR Talcahuano, the docking flooding maneuvers began at 08:00 hours and at 11:30 hours, the ship was completely stranded.

According to Maintenance Plan and requirements of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (NKK) Classification society, on June “Abate Molina” must be subjected to standard hull and Docking Survey and Propeller Shaff survey inspections.

While in docking, cleaning jobs, high-pressure washing and hull sand blasting, application of special paints (Epoxic scheme- antifouling- polyurethaned). Cathodic protection will be changed. It will be inspected the following: propeller shaft holder, rudder, propeller, bottom valves, sea chests and also fuel tanks and lubricants. In addition, hull thickness measurements and calibration of anchor chains will be taken. All works will be inspected by the Maritime Authority and Class society personnel.

According to what informed by Mr. Gerson Lizama F., Marine Operations Department Chief, vessel stay at dry docking will be of approximately 11 days, and during all this time, the works in situ will be supervised by Maintenance Chief, Mr. Francisco Plaza.
