This initiative, organized by the Ministry of Science, aims to create meaningful experiences and bring science, technology, knowledge, and innovation closer to communities throughout the country.
On October 8, a science festival was held in La Serena under the theme “Asking Questions Moves Us.” The event sought to spark curiosity and demonstrate that one does not need to be an expert to engage with science. Featuring 20 booths, the festival brought together institutions, researchers, students, and various organizations, all dedicated to connecting the public with science, technology, and innovation through interactive activities, hands-on experiences, and surprises throughout the day.
IFOP Coquimbo participated by showcasing the Institute’s nationwide work, highlighting its commitment to sustainability and the protection of the marine environment and its resources. Through engaging and educational displays, IFOP professionals introduced children to various marine specimens—such as crustaceans, prawns, and shrimp—as well as scientific measuring instruments, scuba diving gear, and digital cameras. Most importantly, they explained the importance of the responsible use and consumption of our fisheries and aquaculture resources.
Alejandro Dal Santo, IFOP Regional Director, commented on the event: “It is very rewarding for us to be part of this festival, as it allows us to share our work with the community, interact with children, young people, and families, and answer their questions about the ocean and its resources. Here, science becomes an experience that can be lived, explored, and discovered.”
