Scientific ship Abate Molina set sail to evaluate anchoveta and common sardine
December 13th, 2022The research cruise will last 30 days and it will travel between Valparaíso and the north of caleta Mansa, in Los Lagos region
Scientific vessel Abate Molina, sailed on April 30th , from Valparaíso Port , with a total crew of 27 people between researchers and crew, to evaluate and characterize anchoveta stock and sardine resources present between the regions of Valparaíso and Los Lagos, through hydroacoustic method, during the period of maximum recruitment and immediate fall.
The project manager and cruise chief is Álvaro Saavedra fishing engineer and ship’s captain is Iván Giakoni.
The study area is comprised between the northern limit of Valparaíso region (parallel 32º10’S) and the north of Mansa cove parallel (40º20’S), between the coast and the western limit of the continental shelf,
The Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Eduardo Riquelme, referred to the cruise “Scientific vessel Abate Molina carries out a research work that allows making relevant decisions in fisheries matters, with a view to the sustainable development of this activity”
IFOP executive director, Leonardo Núñez, added “Information that will be collected in this cruise, will allow to define the stock status of the sardine and anchoveta fisheries of the south central zone”.
