The Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture invited the Fisheries Development Institute (IFOP) to collaborate on the development of the future National Policy for Promoting Responsible Seafood Consumption, specifically requesting the participation of researchers from the Department of Economics and Statistics (DEE), Gonzalo Olivares and Johanna Rojas, in recognition of their experience in estimating national seafood consumption and developing indicators for monitoring domestic consumption. During the initial stages of the collaboration, both professionals contributed to the analysis and interpretation of the information generated by IFOP and the indicator, supporting the development of objectives that will serve as the basis for formulating public policy recommendations and evidence-based decision-making.

As part of this process, Johanna Rojas and Gonzalo Olivares participated in preparing the technical background information presented at the meeting held at the Ministry of Economy. This meeting, led by the Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, brought together representatives from the public and private sectors, academia, and international organizations such as the FAO, among others, to launch the Intersectoral Technical Working Group. Their involvement in this work will allow IFOP to continue contributing scientific and technical evidence to future meetings and working groups that will lead to the development of the national policy and its subsequent action plan.
