Research Vessel Dra. Barbieri Receives Authorities from the Coquimbo Region

On July 10, at the invitation of Alejandro Dal Santo Cid, Regional Director of the Atacama-Coquimbo Fisheries Development Institute (IFOP), the Regional Secretary of Economy for the Coquimbo Region (IV Region), Martín Argaluza, Zonal Director of the Undersecretariat of Fisheries (Subpesca) for Regions III-IV, Franklin Zepeda, and Regional Director of the National Fisheries Service (Sernapesca) for Region IV, Cristian Gómez, visited the research vessel Dra. Barbieri.

The visit took place during a port call by the Dra. Barbieri to replenish water, fuel, and provisions. The vessel is currently conducting a research cruise to assess fisheries resources between the Antofagasta and Concepción regions. In this particular case, a significant portion of the research crew consisted of Scientific Observers working at IFOP’s Coquimbo office.

The staff of IFOP Coquimbo is largely composed of highly trained and qualified Scientific Observers whose job it is to collect fisheries data in various locations such as fish processing plants, fishing coves, and artisanal and industrial vessels; on this occasion, they were working aboard the research vessel Dra. Barbieri. The samples and data collected provide the technical information necessary to deliver reports to the fisheries management authority, enabling effective and informed decision-making.
