Training workshop on the use of the Macrobent platform among actors in the aquaculture sector

With the purpose of strengthening environmental management in Chilean aquaculture, the Fisheries Development Institute (IFOP), in collaboration with the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture through the Department of Environment, conducted an online training session on Wednesday, October 22, from the city of Puerto Montt. The session focused on the use of the digital platform www.macrobent.cl
by analysis entities and environmental consulting firms specialized in aquaculture.

This activity is part of the ASIPA Agreement study: “Study of the environmental performance of Aquaculture in Chile and its effect on site ecosystems, 2025–2026”, and is also part of a permanent program in Fisheries and Aquaculture (LGPA 20.657), carried out under the agreement signed annually by the Ministry of Economy and Small Businesses with the Fisheries Development Institute.

The training was led by researcher Lilian Díaz Galindo, who guided attendees through a comprehensive tour of the website, beginning with a review of the history and evolution of Macrobent as a key tool for increasing knowledge about organisms that inhabit the seabed. The session then delved into the platform’s main features, exploring its sections, tools, and data query options.

The event also included a practical demonstration on user registration in www.macrobent.cl
, highlighting recommendations to ensure proper enrollment and information management. In addition, the process for submitting online requests, tracking applications, and receiving responses within the system was presented.

One of the most valued segments for participants was the guide on the sample submission protocol, where the steps for both digital and physical shipment of materials were explained.

This training reaffirms the commitment of IFOP and Subpesca to strengthening technological tools that support informed decision-making, contributing to sustainable aquaculture and the protection of the ecosystems where it is developed.
