Barbieri\u2019s baptism and launch took place, a project financed by Fisheries and Aquaculture Undersecretariat, and which will be operated by Fishing Development Institute.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/grupal-barbieri.jpg\" rel=\"baut\" rel=\"27430\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-27434 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/grupal-barbieri-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/grupal-barbieri-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/grupal-barbieri-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/grupal-barbieri-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/grupal-barbieri-160x120.jpg 160w, https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/grupal-barbieri.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Various national and regional authorities participated in the ceremony, including  of Fisheries Undersecretariat, Julio Salas; Los R\u00edos\u2019s governor, Luis Cuvertino; Regional presidential delegate, Carla Pe\u00f1a; IFOP director, Gonzalo Pereira, who referred to the ship \u201cas IFOP, we are very happy and proud to be responsible for this new research vessel Dra. Barbieri\u2019s operation, together with Abate Molina scientific vessel, will allow us to expand  investigations carried out in sectors in which Abate Molina cannot reach due to its size. We are very happy that this ship has Dr. Barbieri\u2019s name, in tribute to an outstanding professional who developed a large part of her performance in our institution. Mar\u00eda \u00c1ngela Barbieri was a pioneer in developing and progressing in the hydroacoustic evaluation studies that are carried out. On the other hand, I have to highlight and thank IFOP\u2019s officials who worked on the ship\u2019s construction technical support, there were several teams that participated, I want to highlight Jorge Castillo and Patricio Herrera who were there from the first minute making their technicial contribution for its construction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/los-chiquillos.jpg\" rel=\"baut\" rel=\"27430\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-27433 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/los-chiquillos-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/los-chiquillos-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/los-chiquillos-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/los-chiquillos.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/los-chiquillos-160x120.jpg 160w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>It has the capacity to easily accommodate 8 scientists and 11 crew members. Its area and operating regime will be Arica to Chacao Channel and inland waters coastal sector from Chacao Channel to Golfo de Penas. This ship will be able to operate for 24 hours, will have a 10 day\u2019s autonomy  without resupply and an operating radius of 500 nautical miles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s mission will be:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pelagic fish biomass evaluation (sardine-anchovy) in Los Lagos Ays\u00e9n and Magallanes coastal sectors and inland waters using acoustic methods<\/li>\n<li>Demersal crustaceans biomass evaluation  (prawns and shrimp) between Coquimbo and Biob\u00edo using fishing nets.<\/li>\n<li>Fish populations biological prospected sampling  through reconnaissance fishing with pelagic nets (mediagua).<\/li>\n<li>Seabed bathymetric survey <\/li>\n<li>Physical, biological oceanography and meteorology climatic change research and  El Ni\u00f1o Phenomenon, through Plankton sampling and study (ichthium, zoo and phyto-plankton),<\/li>\n<li>temperature vertical physical conditions, salinity, oxygen, fluorine, sea acidity, <\/li>\n<li>Horizontal profile in temperature navigation,sea\u2019s salinity, oxygen, fluoride and acidity. <\/li>\n<li>Meteorological data in navigation.<\/li>\n<li>Correntometry, (study of sea currents)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The ship has:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Acoustic and data processing laboratory, for scientific echo sounders operation.
