Ms. Escobar is in charge of evaluating discards in demersal crustacean fisheries, while Mr. San Mart\u00edn does the same in demersal fisheries in the south austral zone, in addition to evaluating marine mammals incidental catches. <\/p>\n

The biannual event is the main world meeting associated with scientific monitoring programs of world fisheries and this year was attended by more than 200 delegates from 28 countries, with Chile being the only representative from the region.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>On the occasion, the researcher presented general results since the monitoring program implementation in 2013 and contributions they have made to the management and reduction of discards and incidental catches recorded in recent years in Chilean demersal fisheries.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Mart\u00edn researcher, “This instance not only made it possible to learn about progress and focus of main fisheries monitoring programs worldwide, but also to evaluate carried out work level in this corner of the world \u201d, \u201cit is comforting to see the great interest that exists on researchers side from all over the world in learning about Chilean process\u2019s progress to address discarding and incidental catches problem , where the research contribution generated by our institution has been fundamental\u201d.<\/p>\n

The institutional commission was joined by researcher Leonardo Caballero, who currently works as head of the sampling management department, in addition to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Undersecretariat professional Luis Cocas and Rub\u00e9n Toro from National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service.<\/p>\n
