{"id":18512,"date":"2018-04-25T08:22:41","date_gmt":"2018-04-25T12:22:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/?p=18512"},"modified":"2018-04-30T10:28:01","modified_gmt":"2018-04-30T14:28:01","slug":"ifop-y-oikonos-firman-convenio-para-fortalecer-la-colaboracion-cientifica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/en\/ifop-y-oikonos-firman-convenio-para-fortalecer-la-colaboracion-cientifica\/","title":{"rendered":"IFOP and Oikonos sign up a scientific collaboration strengthening agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/aves-2-1.jpg\" rel=\"Oikonos\" rel=\"18512\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-18513 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/aves-2-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>This agreement will focus on seabirds and their interaction with fisheries study.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On April 20<sup>th<\/sup> \u00a0in Valpara\u00edso, a collaboration agreement was signed among \u00a0(IFOP) Fisheries Development Institute and NGO Oikonos Ecosystem Knowledge, which aims to promote joint research activities in areas such as:<\/p>\n<p>Incidental capture of seabirds in Chilean fisheries, including interaction diagnosis, affected bird species demographic studies and mitigation measures proposals.<\/p>\n<p>To promote education and information spread in areas of mutual interest, through\u00a0 seabirds identification training, development of good practices manuals, and conducting studies on fishing communities.<\/p>\n<p>To promote data exchange, information and equipment, and to publish collaborative scientific articles.<\/p>\n<p>Leonardo N\u00fa\u00f1ez, IFOP executive director emphasized that &#8220;this type of scientific collaboration agreements strengthen the institute\u2019s function and allow to expand\u00a0 knowledge fields in order to definitively move towards an ecosystemic approach application in national fisheries.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Rodrigo Vega, IFOP researcher, referred to this agreement as an opportunity to access information, experience and capabilities of organizations that address\u00a0 complementary research lines to those carried out by IFOP, which is also an innovation in collaboration policies .<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/aves-2-2.jpg\" rel=\"Oikonos\" rel=\"18512\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-18514 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ifop.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/aves-2-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, Valentina Colodro, Oikonos\u2019s director thanked trust deposited by IFOP in the NGO work done\u00a0 in Chile, expressing\u00a0 interest to collaborate on issues related to seabirds, since they are health indicators of our oceans, and many of them are currently in danger of extinction or other conservation categories. Some species, such as the white fardela, are also found in international agreements that demand us as a country to advance in the understanding of their threats and search for mitigation measures. IFOP is doing an incredible job to start generating inputs to address an ecosystemic management, innovative in South America, I am very proud to be in a dialogue stage and collaboration, contributing our grain of sand in our marine resources sustainable management .<\/p>\n<p>At the end Luis Adasme IFOP researcher stressed out the point\u00a0 that &#8221; signing of this agreement consolidates willingness to work together, and will also strengthen technical and professional capacities, as well as strengthen the connection among both institutions in order to advance in future research demands required by seabirds study\u00a0 and fishing operations interactions. &#8220;","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This agreement will focus on seabirds and their interaction with fisheries study.
